Spartacus and the Bourbons

The guided tour of the Vanvitelliano complex will be an opportunity to admire the historic apartments, decorations, furniture, precious fabrics and paintings. Built by Luigi Vanvitelli from 1751 on behalf of Charles III of Bourbon, the imposing palace is one of the most sumptuous palaces in Europe, whose decoration was worked by the most important workers of the time. Through the staircase of honor we will reach the royal apartments: the Room of the Halberdiers, the Room of the Bodyguards, the Room of Alexander, called "Hall of marble". We will then move to the Throne Room (the largest), the King’s apartment with the Council Room, the living room of Francis II, the bedroom and the bathroom.

Continuation to Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the ancient Capua. It was one of the major cities of the Roman era. The amphitheater of Campania, in size and importance was compared to those of Rome and Verona. The gladiator ludi and venationes relive in the Gladiator Museum, where the reconstruction of the monument helps us to understand such an important aspect of Roman life. Ancient Capua was also the place where the revolt of the gladiators led by Spartacus originated. Then we will visit the Archaeological Museum that traces the history of ancient Capua and its territory from the tenth to the first century. A.C.
