Phlegraean fields

Baia and the way of lakes

Guided tour of the wonderful Aragonese castle, now home to the Museum of Phlegraean Fields   which houses the collections and archaeological remains of the ancient city, which today are located below sea level due to the phenomenon of bradyseism. We continue the walk in the direction of the small Lucrino lake: considered "mythical", for the many legends to which they are linked and "chameleon" for the different transformations suffered during its history. We will then move to  Averno Lake, which occupies the crater of a volcano that was formed about 4000 years ago during the last of the volcanic phases that characterize the formation of the Phlegraean Fields area. Today nothing remains of its ancient sinister aspect, indeed the guided walk on the shores of the lake, offers countless suggestions and pleasant naturalistic views. Around the lake, the land is cultivated with citrus groves, fruit and vegetables, while at the edge of the lake grows, always lush, the cane thicket. Finally, we continue towards Fusaro Lake on which stands the Casina Vanvitelliana, beautiful and charming royal site of the Bourbon era.
