Path of Fabrics and Colors. The Lemons of Partenope

 

The art of silk in Naples in the heart of the historic center visit the church of San Filippo and Giacomo, jewel of the baroque in the heart of the historic center of Naples, home of the silk guild; discover together the history of this art.
The art of silk has been in the past for the city of Naples one of the first artisan. An important economic sector, it involved a large part of the city’s workforce between 1500 and 1600, from the farmers who cultivated mulberry trees, to the breeding of worms and the reeling, spinners, dyers, weavers and finally merchants. The Italian silk industry at the end of the sixteenth century held a real record in Europe and at the beginning of the twentieth century the silk produced in Italy accounted for about 80% assuming in Naples remarkable proportions for the opportunities for growth.
Silk was a rich product for the rich, used as a gift in royal families or for the clothes of the clergy and in many other vestments and robes, it was used in churches, on the walls, in funeral equipment. In Naples the art of silk was introduced by the Jews in the VI-VII century. Ferrante di Aragona will regulate this production, the acts of the Guilds are created, a court that helps in resolving the issues, are called by the king workers from all over Italy to follow the practice of Neapolitan craftsmen.

We will continue with the bus to the Sorrentine Peninsula, lunch at a farmhouse in Vico Equense where we will taste typical products and good traditional wine and relax to enjoy the beautiful scents and extraordinary views.
Our excursion will continue with a visit to a company producing Sorrento lemon with tasting of limoncello and lemon flavors, jams and products made with the nectar of Partenope.
